Cleansing diets normally consist of eating no solid foods, or very little, and drinking liquids that cleanse your body. One popular type of cleanse is the Lemonade Cleanse or Master Cleanse.

The Lemon Drink will be usually made up as in the following recipe:

  • Juice of ½ lemon freshly squeezed
  • 2 tablespoons of Maple Syrup
  • Small pinch of cayenne pepper
  • 14 oz water

You should mix all the ingredients together by placing them into a bottle and shaking.

Some people recommended using warmed spring water for mixing their lemon drink.

This lemon mixture should then be taken every 1 to 2 hours. You can drink as much as you wish and you should consume at least 12 8oz glasses every day. It is also recommended that you stay on this cleansing diet for at least 10 days. Many people have successfully completed 40 days without any issues.

Just before going to bed each night you should drink an herbal laxative tea.

When your cleanse is finished you must wean yourself back onto solid foods. This should be done slowly over the course of several days. On the first day you want to start by drinking small glasses of orange juice. You can drink this several times during the day if your body can handle it.

One the second day continue with the orange juice during the day. For supper make a vegetable broth using fresh, leafy vegetables. Drink mainly the broth with just a small amount of the vegetables.

For day three you can eat the vegetable broth at lunch time and then at dinner time eat the vegetables themselves.

By day four you start your day off with the orange juice. For lunch you may now consume fruits, vegetables, seeds and nuts. For supper you can have salad along with more fruits.

On day five you can return to eating normally including your regular proteins, dairy products and carbs. If your stomach bothers you then you may want to cut back on the amount that you are eating.  Do not eat high fat, refined or sugary foods at all.

The Lemon Cleanse diet is an extremely low calorie diet which can produce rapid weight loss. This one effect is one of the main reasons why it has become so popular. On the other hand consuming so few calories can lead to possible side effects. This includes headaches, feeling dizzy and nauseated and tired.

It is known that many people who lose lots of weight quickly can develop gall stones. This diet is also not advisable for anyone suffering from diabetes, any form of cancer and anyone who is known to be underweight. It is especially not recommended for children.

Many people that use this type of cleansing diet are those that are looking for a spiritual cleanse along with a physical cleanse. This may or may not be for everyone so think carefully before embarking on any lengthy cleansing ritual.
